Alanis Morisette goes Big Screen |
|
Alanis Morisette will do a song-and-dance routine with "Let's Do It,
Let's Fall in Love" in Just One of Those Things, an upcoming musical
about the life of legendary composer Cole Porter, which is currently in
production for MGM.
The film will star Kevin Kline as Porter and Ashley Judd as his wife
Linda Lee fronting a cast that will feature several musicians putting
their stamp on Porter's classic catalog. Elvis Costello will appear to
sing "Let's Misbehave," Sheryl Crow will tackle "Begin the Beguine," and
Robbie Williams (who covered Porter's "Did You Evah?" on his 2001
release Swing When You're Winning) will perform "It's De-Lovely." Diana Krall
will perform a pair of songs, the title track and "I Get a Kick Out of
You." Kline will perform fourteen Porter compositions.
"These are some of the world's top musical talents," director Irwin
Winkler said. "By lending their voices to some of the most spectacular
music ever written, we'll be able to introduce the genius of Cole Porter
to a whole new generation of fans."
The film will also try to capitalize on the success of Chicago, last
year's hit musical, which won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Tribe Called Quest reunited |
|
The ultimate Native Tongues collective, A Tribe Called Quest have
announced that they will reform to record a new album.
Diminutive emcee Phife Dawg said that the death of their hero Jam
Master Jay had inspired the legendary act to come back together.
"What really brought it to the forefront was the whole Jam Master Jay
thing," he explained. "We just wanted to be Run-DMC.
"Me and Q-Tip grew around the corner from them. Those were our heroes."
Tribe disbanded in 1998 amidst rumours of internal disputes and both
Q-Tip and Phife launched critically acclaimed solo albums, Phife telling
dotmusic at the time that he had been waiting to go it alone since the
band's second album.
Q-Tip then went on to struggle at the hands of his label Arista and
found his follow-up record shelved.
Now, their differences appear to be behind them and Phife is positive
about the reunion.
"When I go out all the time, when I am just hanging out at the mall
doing my thing everybody is saying, 'You guys gotta do it, you need to
come back.' After a while you gotta appreciate the love," he said.
The news follows hot on the heels of the announcement of a planned Jive
Records compilation, 'Hits, Rarities & Remixes', to accompany the 1999
compilation of their finest moments, 'Anthology'.
'Hits, Rarities & Remixes' is released on June 3 - no date has yet been
set for the new material.

Kylie is to become Mrs Martinez ! |
|
Speculation is mounting that Aussie diva Kylie Minogue is planning to
marry her French boyfriend, Olivier Martinez.
According to reports, an aide of the singer has already met with London
lawyers to discuss the financial implications of her marrying in the
near future.
Kylie - who has celebrated her 35th birthday last month - is also said
to have inquired into the possibility of a prenuptial agreement.
A 'source' told the Daily Mail: "It was just a tentative inquiry about
the ins and outs of marriage.
"The aide was given advice about Kylie's money and what marriage could
mean.
"One of the things that came into the discussion was a prenuptial
agreement as that is how many stars look after their money - but the lawyer
advised against it as they aren't binding in British courts.'
Martinez, a well-known actor in his native country, met Kylie in
February this year after the Grammy awards in Los Angeles.
The pair have since been photographed together in various cities across
the world, with Kylie allegedly telling friends that Martinez is "the
one".

Ex-Sugababe: Siobhan |
|
Siobhan Donaghy's decision to leave the Sugababes back in 2001 seemed
to signal the end of her involvement in music.
But fast-forward a few years and she's back with a solo career and a
very bright future if debut solo single 'Overrated' (out June 16) is
anything to go by.
You can already listen to this single on Star Radio
'Overrated', the first taster of her new album out in September, sounds
like a cross between the All Saints and a track off the Sugababes'
first album thanks to the production and writing input of Cameron McVey.
"There's room for music to be a lot more interesting than the teen
stuff that's out there," says Donaghy.
"I wanna play live, do interesting videos, we've got great tunes and a
couple of them have even have a point. I'm not ashamed to say at the
moment I am only listening to my album. Hahaha!"
Still only 18, Donaghy was one third of the Sugababes for three years
as they rose from unknowns to having a hit with their first single
'Overload' and releasing an acclaimed, if commercially underrated, debut
album 'One Touch'.

Ricky Martin too shy to approach women |
|
Ricky Martin claims he's too shy to approach women - but doesn't usually have to bother.
He says the perception that he's a womaniser is completely wrong, as he would never make the first move.
The singer has re-appeared on the music scene after a three year break with his new all-Spanish album 'Almas del Selencio' and his latest single 'Jaleo'.
When asked if he would ask a woman out, he told German FHM: "Absolutely not. I'm much too shy for that - I could never approach a woman."
But he added: "I usually don't have to make the first move." He said he likes women to have nice eyes and hands.
On the other hand, Ricky Martin has admitted he talks to himself in the mirror every night as part of a spiritual search.
He has taken time out over the last two years to try and gain a better understanding of himself.
The star adds that he also reads through a list of 300 feelings before going to sleep to identify which of them he has experienced that day.
He told German magazine Amica: "I stand in front of the mirror and say: 'Okay, now without the whole s*** - forget the damned cameras and the journalists, forget the stage - who are you?'
"In the last two years I have really concentrated on myself. Before when my job made me sick I beat myself up about it as though I myself was my worst enemy.
I was very obsessive as far as my work was concerned because I could only get rid of my anger on the stage.
It was my narcotic - a sort of drug against all the bad feelings."

David Bowie: The Reality 'World' Tour |
|
The singer will play to more than a million people in 17 countries during a seven-month series of concerts around the world.
The Reality tour - named after his forthcoming album - will start in Europe in October before moving on to North America, Australia and the Far East.
It will be his first major tour since the hugely successful Outside World tour of 1995.
The star has also revamped one of his most famous album covers for a new mineral water commercial.
He becomes half-man half-beast - like on his 1974 hit Diamond Dogs - in the ad campaign for mineral water Vittel.
Bowie walks through a house and in each room he is in a different era from his career.
