Metallica to the rescue !
It's strange but true. The U.S. Military is using Metallica's music to break the resistance of uncooperative prisoners of war in Iraq. Newsweek reports that 'Enter Sandman', Drowning Pool's 'Bodies' and the theme from Barney The Dinosaur are helping the military acquire information. One Sergeant told the magazine that the Iraqi's have never heard heavy metal music before and they can't take it. As for Barney that's a no brainer.

Sergeant Mark Hadsell told Newsweek, "If you play it [offensive music] for 24 hours, your brain and body functions start to slide, your train of!

Sting's new album 'Sacred Love' due in September
Sting's new album, Sacred Love-his first studio effort since 1999's Brand New Day--will be released September 22 internationally and on September 23 in the U.S. The first single from the set "Send Your Love" will hit radio in July. The album was produced by Sting and longtime Sting keyboardist and producer Kipper. The recording was completed in Paris in April. Among the tracks on the album is a duet with Mary J. Blige titled, "Whenever I Say Your Name."

The A&E channel will air a program on the making of the album in early October, according to the singer's official website.

In conjunction with the album release, Sting and his band recorded a DVD featuring the new music at the historic Mayan Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The DVD is also due in October.

Busta Rhymes hit with assault charge
Rapper and actor Busta Rhymes has been hit with misdemeanor assault and battery charges after an altercation last December at Jake's Twin Saloons in Fall River, Massachusetts, by a fan named Celine Giguere. Giguere's lawyer Mark Mechan told the New York Daily News that when Giguere reached out towards Rhymes, the rapper grabbed and shoved the woman against a table. The rapper then allegedly threatened her, "If you ever touch me again, I will f--king kill you!"

The rapper's lawyer Robert Kalina maintains that the allegations are false and that Giguere is just trying to make a quick buck. He said, "This is a bunch of people looking to get a million bucks from a famous person."

Giguere was also hit with misdemeanor assault and battery charges after testifying on April 29 in Fall River District Court that she also touched the rapper during the incident. An arrangement date has been set for June 24. If found guilty, either party could face up to a year in prison.

Vanessa Carlton records 'Spy Hunter 2' Theme
Vanessa Carlton will provide the theme song for the upcoming Spy Hunter 2 video game and the track is titled "Dark Carnival". The game is scheduled to ship this fall for Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and X-Box. Carlton debuted the new song live at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles on Wednesday (May 14).
Carlton's debut album Be Not Nobody is certified platinum. The singer said that even though she's had a lot of success recently, she still views herself as just one of the many female singer-songwriters out there. I"There have always been female singer songwriters," Carlton said. "It's part of the musical landscape always. Whether or not it's selling a lot of records or not it's always there."

T.A.t.U Barred From Red Square Filming
They're the first Russian pop sensation to top music charts worldwide, but Moscow police weren't having any of it. Authorities barred the Russian pop duo t.A.t.U. Thursday from filming their new video on Red Square.

Several hundred fans - many dressed in the skimpy schoolgirl uniforms favored by the duo - turned up to act as extras in what was supposed to be the band's video for the Eurovision song contest. But instead, Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, both 18, barely emerged from their trailer. "It looks like Russia does not care for t.A.t.U. representing its country," said their producer, Ivan Shapovalov, after failing to get permission to let the filming go ahead.

The duo, whose skimpy outfits and flirtation with lesbianism made headlines around the world, had an international hit with "All the Things She Said," and became the first Russian band to break through the tough British singles chart.

Shapovalov created t.A.t.U. in 1999 to be deliberately provocative and fill what he saw as a gap in the teenage band market.

Russia chose the duo to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest where they ended up third.

A memorial for Lisa 'Left Eye' in Honduras
A memorial for the late TLC singer Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes has been commissioned in Honduras, where the singer died in a car crash last year. The freestanding monument has been unveiled on 27 May in the Honduran city of La Ceiba, where Lopes had bought 84 acres of land shortly before her death. The singer was killed in a car accident on April 2002, after becoming a worldwide star with TLC. The band had hits such as Waterfall and No Scrubs and sold more than 20 million records.

The memorial will be revealed by the TLC singer's family, as well as Honduran president Ricardo Maduro, and other dignitaries. Lopes had been a regular visitor to Honduras, and often worked at a local children's centre during her time off. She had plans to open a health spa on the land she bought before her death.

Lopes suffered severe head injuries and died when she lost control of the vehicle she was driving in Honduras on 25 April 2002. Seven other people, including her brother and sister, were injured in the crash, which local police are blaming on high speed and poor road conditions.

Lopes' funeral was in her home town of Lithonia, in Atlanta, last May. The singer first made headlines in 1994 after she was arrested for burning down the house of boyfriend, former Atlanta Falcons American football player, Andre Rison. After her death her bandmates - Tionne 'T Boz' Watkins and Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas - said they would not replace her, but would continue TLC's fourth album as a duo. The record, 3D, was released last year.

Whitney Houston completely trashed
Whitney Houston and husband Bobby Brown created a few ripples when they arrived in Las Vegas last week for Houston's appearance on the VH1 Divas Duets show. According to the Las Vegas Sun, employees at the Picasso restaurant say that Houston looked "completely trashed" during her visit and created a "public spectacle." Foxnews.com further reported that Houston showed up at Las Vegas' AAA Ear, Nose And Throat Group with a bloody nose, though it was not clear what had caused the condition. Whitney Houston's publicist told New York's Daily News that Houston created no problems while in Vegas--and in fact turned in early.

Cher's Throat Forces Concerts To Be Postponed
A sore throat has forced Cher to postpone several dates on her current "Farewell Tour." The singer's ailments forced the postponement of four shows to date. Cher has been out on the road since mid-January. In the meantime, the Oscar-winning star found time to listen to a variety of music while on the road. She said that while she doesn't love any one artist, she does like the music of another Oscar winner, Eminem. "I like Eminem, some of his stuff, Cher said. You know, some of his stuff I think is interesting, and I think I don't really love any artist completely, but there are some things from younger artists."
