Robbie Nevil's comeback in 2005
Legendary recording artist Robbie Nevil is back as a solo artist. Robbie broke onto the scene in 1986 with his infectious chart-topping hit "C'est la Vie". Although songs such as "Dominoes," "Wot's It to Ya" (which became his second Top Ten single) and "C'est la Vie," defined the artist, Nevil had a successful songwriting career prior to making a name for himself as a solo artist. Having played guitar since the age of 11, Nevil started his career by covering numerous bands, eventually progressing to performing his own original material. In 1983, he signed a publishing deal and managed to place tracks on albums by artists including the Pointer Sisters, El DeBarge, and Earth, Wind & Fire (whom had been an early influence on him). Today, Robbie continues to write and produce for artists such as Babyface, Jessica Simpson, and Destiny's Child.

Robbie Nevil's fourth album will pay tribute to some of the greatest soul songs ever recorded. The album will include remakes of such soul classics as "I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash, "Ain't No Sunshine" By Bill Withers, "Shining Star" by The Manhattans and "I'll Take You There" by The Staple Singers. Viastar plans to release the album in first quarter 2005.

Cliff Richard dumbs EMI to sign up with Decca
The veteran pop star who became one of Britain's most successful solo singers, notching up a string of hit singles over five decades, leaves EMI for Decca. The artist stayed with the record company EMI for 45 years before announcing his move to Decca.

Cliff's new album "Something's Going On" will be released on November 1 and is his first studio CD in three years.

Something's Going On tracklisting is as follows:

Thousand Miles To Go
Somethin' Is Goin' On
I Will Not Be A Mistake
Simplicity
Sometimes Love
I Cannot Give You My Love
The Day That I Stop Loving You
What Car
How Did She Get Here
Field Of Love
For Life
I Don't Wanna Lose You
Faithful One

It is a collection of original songs, ranging from upbeat pop numbers to ballads, and was recorded in Nashville and Miami with a selection of new and established writers and also saw the pop star collaborate with Barry Gibb on two tracks.

The first single, Something's Going On, will be released in October, when the singer will also be talking about his move to Decca.

Lil' Romeo released new album
Lil' Romeo released "RomeoLand," his 3rd album on New No Limit/Koch Records on September 21. "My Cinderella," the first single from the album, features Nick Cannon and is heating up at urban radios. The video for "My Cinderella" features Tatyana Ali as well as Nick Cannon and is in rotation on BET, Nickelodeon and local video outlets nationally. His hit television show, "Romeo!" on the Nickelodeon network kicked off its second season this fall. The show was the #1 cable show among African American kids ages 9-14 last year. On this season of the show, his character Romeo Miller turns 14 and discovers girls. The real Romeo turned 15 in August and raps about nothing but girls on his new album "RomeoLand."

Romeo made his music debut at age 11 with the release of his first hit single, "My Baby" from his self-titled debut CD. With the release of the single, Romeo became the youngest solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart - a title previously held by Michael Jackson. "My Baby" went to No 1 on three different Billboard charts (Hot Rap Singles, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales and Hot 100 Singles Sales) and held on to the No 1 position on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Sales chart for 10 straight weeks. That same year Romeo took home the 2001 Billboard Music Award for "Rap Artist of the Year" and "Rap Single of the Year" for "My Baby."

Romeo and his dad, Master P will launch their new line of diamond encrusted watches call Masterpieces in weeks to come and Lil Romeo's hot new clothing line, P. Miller Shorties, can be purchased nationally at Sears, JC Penny and Kohls stores.

Robbie Williams: my name is Pure Francis
Two years after the album "Escapology", Singer and Songwriter Robbie Williams is back more than ever. His album "Diamond" is due in October. Robbie's album will be under the name of "Pure Francis". Robbie invented the character like David Bowie did back in time with "Ziggy Stardust". In two words, Pure Francis is an alcooholic american from Orange county who tried his luck in old Hollywood but never succeeded. The album is with more electronic sounds. At the end of the year, Robbie will release a Best of album with 19 songs including 2 new songs: "Radio" and "Misunderstood". Misunderstood is a song that will be featured in the upcoming movie Bridget Jones: Edge of reason, due in December 1st.

You can also find Robbie in the bookshops with his biographie written with the collaboration of Chris Heath.

Tribute to Maurice Gibb
Stars such as Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake have been invited to perform at a tribute concert in respect for the late Bee Gees Maurice Gibb. The concert is being organised by his twin brother Robin and will be held sometime next year in the US.

Maurice died in January last year after surgery on his intestines. Robin is also working on a commemorative album featuring different artists singing classic Bee Gees hits including Alicia Keys and Black Eyed Peas. It is rumoured that both acts will appear at the tribute concert. Actor John Travolta has been asked to host the event due to his starring role in Saturday Night Fever which featured a Bee Gee's hit soundtrack. The concert will also raise funds for the Gibb Family Foundation, which was set up in memory for Maurice and his brother Andy who died in 1988 of a heart attack at the age of 30. The foundation donates money to other charities including Diabetes Research Institute and National Drug Abuse Council in the US.

Robin admits that he gave up music after his brother died, but has just began performing again.

Oasis out in May
Noel Gallagher has revealed the release date of the new Oasis album. Noel revealed, during a TV interview, that the band has set themselves a deadline to release their long-overdue follow-up to 'Heathen Chemistry'. May 26 2005 is the date mentionned by Noel on a Sky one tv show. Oasis scrapped sessions intended for the follow-up to Heathen Chemistry, which included a period recording with Death In Vegas. Noel recently revealed that Oasis have written 66 songs for the new album and that brother Liam has written most of them.

Judge Wants Spears to Explain Legal Action
A federal judge has ordered Britney Spears to explain why she failed to respond to a pre-emptive lawsuit filed by a diet supplement maker, who claims the pop star's lawyers threatened to sue for using her image without permission in marketing.

The complaint originated in a moment of clumsiness, when Spears was seen spilling a bottle of diet supplement Zantrex-3 at London's Heathrow airport in October 2003 and scrambling to pick up the pills. The fumble was captured by a flock of paparazzi, and London's Daily Express devoted a whole page to the incident.

A trio of Utah companies behind the supplement capitalized on the accident by invoking Spears in advertising, but they claimed Spears' lawyers ordered them to stop citing the episode or they would be sued.

Zoller Laboratories LLC, DG Enterprises and Basic Research LLC are asking a federal judge to declare they have violated no federal or state law with their marketing practices.

Their lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in November, but it took months to finally serve Spears with the papers.

U.S. District Judge Paul Cassell on Tuesday ordered Spears to explain why she failed to respond to the complaint by the Sept. 1 deadline. The pop star has until Oct. 22 to reply to that order. If she fails, the companies will win a declaration approving their actions by default.

Prince Video Depicts Terror, Sparks Outcry
The musician Prince is drawing fire for a new video that portrays an Arab-American girl envisioning herself blowing up an airport. The video for the song "Cinnamon Girl" shows the girl, played by 14-year-old Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes of the movie "Whale Rider," facing harassment from schoolmates and witnessing racism in the wake of an attack that mirrors 9/11.

Steve Silberfarb, president of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota, said he applauds the anti-harassment message, but found a dream sequence in which the girl detonates a bomb at an airport disturbing. "Even allowing for the right of an artist to express himself, I think it's misguided and offensive," Silberfarb said. "Her frustration is understandable. The violence is not."

Prince turned down an interview request through his Los Angeles-based publicist, Ronnie Lippin. She said his goal was to provoke a discussion about the issues raised in the video. "If people are reacting with concern, I think the conversation is starting," she said.

The recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee rose to fame in the 1980s with a series of sexually provocative songs and videos and his starring role in the autobiographical "Purple Rain." His career has seen a revival this year with the release of the album "Musicology" and a successful nationwide tour.

"What it is is a washed-up pop star's crass exploitation of post-9/11 race-card-playing by Arab-American apologists for terror," conservative columnist Michelle Malkin wrote in her Weblog.

MTV spokesman Graham James said the video is currently playing on MTVU, which is available only on college campuses. He said it would enter rotation on the flagship channel next week.

NEWS [Round-Up]

Jamiroquai, Vanessa Carlton, Franz Ferdinand, Lemonheads, U2, KRAFTWERK, Sofia Essaïdi, Kurt Cobain...
* Jamiroquai's Jay Kay has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught driving at 105 mph. Jay Kay was stopped by police after being caught overtaking vehicles on the A9 highway near Perth, Scotland, in July. Officers pulled him over after he was clocked exceeding the 70mph speed limit in his top-of-the-range car, registration V8 JAY. Authorities banned Jay Kay from driving for six months and also imposed a £750 fine ($1,350).

* Vanessa Carlton will release her new album "Harmonium" November 9th in The States. The LP's first single "White Houses," is featuring Lindsey Buckingham Fleetwood Mac on acoustic guitar and hit radio in September. Vanessa Carlton has recorded the album in San Francisco with her boyfriend Stephen Jenkins (Third Eye Blind) as a co-producer.

* Franz Ferdinand have won the prestigious Mercury Music Prize at a ceremony in London. The Scottish rockers were the favourites to win the prize and faced competition from artists including Keane, Joss Stone, Jamelia, Amy Winehouse and The Streets. The prize is awarded to the best album of the last year by a UK or Irish act and is voted for by a panel of music industry experts, journalists and music artists. It is judged on talent and innovation rather than commercial sales.

* After an eight year break, the group Lemonheads are writing another album. Dando, who recently was providing vocals for band D.K.T/MC5’s tour, decided to leave to concentrate on new material for the Lemonheads, who had a string of great hits in the early Nineties. The album will be the group's first since 1996’s 'Car, Button, Cloth'.

* U2 have covered electro legends KRAFTWERK on their new single ‘Vertigo’, which is out on November 8. The track is the first single from the band’s as-yet-untitled 11th album due to be released on November 22. The song was recorded at Hanover Keys studio in Dublin and produced by Steve Lillywhite. Other B-sides are new song ‘Are You Gonna Wait Forever?’, and a remix of the title track by Jack Knife Lee. The single will come out on two CDs and DVD single, featuring a video for the song. Some of the songs on the record will be ‘Vertigo’, ‘Man And A Woman’, ‘Yahweh’, ‘Crumbs From Your Table’ and ‘City Of Blinding Lights’. The album is the follow-up to 2000’s ’All That You Can’t Leave Behind’.

* French singer, Sofia Essaïdi from the famous Reality TV show "Star Academy 3" (similar to Fame Academy) is due to release a record. She cancelled her concert in Marocco, her home country, to go to Montreal where she is recording her materials. A spokesman declared that she will be working with the team of the singer Corneille. To be continued ....

* NIRVANA are to release a box set on November 22, according to internet rumours. The package will contain three CDs and a DVD. The release is also expected to feature rare Nirvana recordings and solo demos from singer Kurt Cobain. As previously reported a new film charting the events leading up to Kurt Cobain's death is also set to be released. Director Gus Van Sant, best known for mainstream movies like ‘Good Will Hunting’, ‘Drugstore Cowboy’ and ‘To Die For’ , has finished shooting the movie which provides an insight into the former Nirvana singer’s final days. Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home with a gunshot wound to the head on April 8, 1994. ‘Final Days’ does not offer any conclusions as to why the troubled singer killed himself but instead suggests he was already resigned to his own death long before he was found in his home. The film is due for release in 2005.
