Robbie likes to dress up as a Cowboy |
|
An English newspaper has reported that Robbie Williams has offered a
really big wad of cash for the movie rights to story of the Village
People. You Know, YMCA, Can't stop the music and a host of other cheesy 70's
tunes.
Robbie told a friend "the Village People were icons. They defined disco
and their story is amazing. It will make a great movie". A film
industry source said: "Ever since Moulin Rouge and Chicago, every studio in
Hollywood wants to do a musical. So Robbie won't have a hard time getting
this movie financed. Studio executives are sold on the idea of a
Village People movie". Robbie wants to star in the film himself as the cowboy
role made famous by Randy Jones, who sang on the hits "In the Navy" and
"YMCA".
It's about now that you really start to donbt which way Mr. Williams
swings, sure it's great to like disco in a kitch kind of way but to play
a lead role in the movie, well... hello sailor

Walk a mile in Ronan's Shoes |
|
Ronan Keating has begun a marathon charity walk around Ireland. The
singer is aiming to complete the 420 mile journey and arrive in Kinsale in
Country Cork, by June 8.
During his walk he will be accompanied by a team of volunteers who will
collect money on behalf of the Marie Keating Foundation and Action
Cancer. Father-of-two Ronan and his family set up the foundation five years
ago in memory of his mother, Marie, who died from breast cancer.
As he began his walk accompanied by his wife, former model Yvonne, the
singer said he hoped people would cheer him on and donate to the
charity. "We've had a great response so far, so I'm really hoping we get the
support we need as we pass through each town", he said.
To prepare for the 20-mile a day hike, Ronan has trained regularly for
a month and says he is ready for the challenge. "I feel fitter than
ever, but it's a very tough challenge and I hope I make it."

Barry White's Family Confirms Stroke |
|
Soul singer Barry White, battling kidney failure since last fall,
suffered a new health setback on May 1 with a speech-impairing stroke, his
daughter, Shaheara White, has revealed.
The stroke also affected the right side of White's body, but the
58-year-old entertainer is otherwise in "great spirits" as he waits in Los
Angeles for his condition to stabilize enough to undergo a kidney
transplant, his daughter said.
White's record label, the Island Def Jam Music Group, disclosed in
September that he was undergoing dialysis for kidney failure brought on by
a history of high blood pressure.
"My dad had surgery May 1 to place a catheter in his arm," his daughter
said. "He had a stroke ... that affected his speech and the right side
of his body, but he is in great spirits."
The singer, a native of Galveston, Texas, who grew up in L.A., was
honored last week through a resolution adopted by the L.A. City Council to
name a recreation center for him.

Vandross Remains In Critical Condition |
|
Luther Vandross remains in critical condition and still needs
assistance to breathe, according to his publicist. The veteran soul singer,
hospitalized at New York's Weill-Cornell Medical College since his April 16
stroke, has not regained consciousness.
"There's been no radical change is his condition," the publicist said.
Doctors are said to be remaining hopeful the 52-year-old singer will
regain consciousness. Although there have been some reports that Vandross
was breathing on his own, the publicist said that information was
incorrect.
Following his stroke, Vandross underwent a tracheotomy and had a tube
inserted in his throat to assist his breathing, in part because he had
contracted pneumonia.
His next album, "Dance With My Father," is scheduled for a June 10
release by J Records.

Shania Twain Says The Pressure Is Off |
|
Shania Twain's latest album, Up!, was easier for the superstar to
record than her previous efforts because she said she felt no pressure. In
fact, Twain said her stress level rose after The Woman In Me (1995)
proved so successful, making it a tough act to follow with Come On Over
(1997).
Of course, Twain had no worries. Come On Over sold more than 34 million
copies, making it the biggest-selling album ever by a female artist.
"There was much more stress on me the last time because I had my first
diamond album with The Woman In Me, and then the next album was kind of
the test,” she said. “You know, 'Is she gonna be able to do this again?
and if she doesn't do it again, she'll probably go away like everybody
else.' So when the next album did triple that, I really did feel as if
I achieved something that even I may never achieve again."
Twain said she has achieved everything she has ever wanted as far as
music is concerned. "I was very relaxed and comfortable with that and
very happy to say I've gone way beyond my own personal goals in this
industry, and whatever happens from here I'll just feel very, extremely
fortunate, so that pressure's off more than anything," Twain said.
