The Brits Awards 2004 |
|
This year's biggest winners are the Darkness, with three awards : best British group, best rock act and best British album. Daniel Bedingfield won the best British male solo artist and Dido won the best british single and best British female solo artist. The new artist Lemar, revealed in the TV show pop idol, won the best British urban act (though he's not famous in any other country! but of course we are talking about the Brits Awards !)
The show opened with The Black Eyed Peas performing their hit song 'Shut Up'. Other performances were from Busted who performed their interpretation of the Undertones hit 'Teenage Kicks', Outkast who performed their infectious hit song 'Hey Ya' and Beyonce who sang her No.1 single of last year 'Crazy In Love' - a very hot performance, one of the highlights of the show. The odd performance of the show came from Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani & Missy Elliott, a collaboration of three acts, with their own rap version of Prince's hit 'Kiss'. The Darkness took the stage as the last live performance of the evening with 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' and 'Growing On Me'.
Eventhough it's a British event, most of the performances were dominated by American acts (! ), and surprisingly Dido did not perform at the event although she had three Brit nominations.
The greatest moment of the show was when Duran Duran collected the Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award with a medley of their old hits.Their music has been the most outstanding British music over three decades and their greatest achievement to date and one of the most influential bands of the 80s.
Here is the list of Brit Awards 2004 winners:

Janet Hiding ! |
|
According to Janet Jackson's fan website, Janet has made her first appearance after the infamous halftime boob incident. The singer was on hand in Beverly Hills
over the weekend to be honoured by the NBA players' wives association for her humanitarian and charitable contributions.
A spokesperson for the group says Jackson agreed to the event seven months ago, and replacing her was never considered. Janet was axed from the
Grammy Awards after she refused to apologize for the Super Bowl incident. Janet attended the NBA All-Star Game, where the half-time performance by
Beyonce Knowles was broadcasted on a 10-second delay due to the controversy surrounding Jackson's Super Bowl performance.

George Michael : Patience |
|
After numerous rumours of legal wrangles and label hopping followed by the disappointing sales of ‘Freeek!’ and ‘Shoot The Dog’ you could be forgiven for believing that George Michael was washed up. The former Wham frontman and friend of Geri Halliwell hasn’t had it easy in the 21st Century – but all that is about to change. His new album ‘Patience’ is an album of old-school pop-soul in the ‘Faith’ tradition and the first taster, ‘Amazing’ is exactly that – a top pop gem that we thought George had long forgotten how to write. True class never goes away – it just lulls you into a false sense of security, before hitting back bigger and better than before.
1. Patience
2. Amazing
3. John And Elvis (Are Dead)
4. Cars And Trains
5. Round Here
6. Shoot The Dog
7. My Mother Had A Brother
8. Flawless (Go To The City)
9. American Angel
10. Please Send Me Someone (Anselmo's Song)
11. Freeeek! 04
12. Through
13. Patience Pt.2

News Round-Up: Kylie, Enrique, Alex Parks, Madonna, OutKast, Norah Jones... |
|
* Madonna will be ready soon for a world tour in support of her latest album "American Life". The tour is likely to begin in May, more than a year after the release of the album.
* OutKast have confirmed that production of the film "Speakerboxx" will begin in May for the television company HBO. The film, being steered by "Hey Ya" and "Way You Move" director Bryan Barber, will be accompanied by a complete soundtrack of new material which will also be officially released as OutKast 's next album. The tireless duo of Big Boi and Andre are currently at work on the music.
* The new album from Norah Jones has shot to the top of the US charts, selling more than a million copies in its first week. "Feels Like Home" is the first album to break through the one-million barrier in its debut week since N'Sync's "Celebrity" in 2001. The album is Jones's follow-up to her enormously successful 2002 debut album "Come Away With Me" - a collection of old and new torch songs sung in a sultry jazz-pop vocal style that sold 17 million copies worldwide and garnered eight Grammy awards. According to her label, EMI, the new album charted at number one in 16 countries.
* Black Eyed Peas have confirmed that they may be doing a record with their new best pals The Darkness in an Aerosmith / Run DMC style.
* Diana Ross has got to go to prison - for two days. She's received the sentence for drink driving. Police in Arizona stopped her for parking in a space meant for a disabled driver and found she was way over the legal limit. She'd also driven the wrong way down a street. Officers at the scene reported that her eyes were watery and bloodshot and she fell over whilst being questioned. The court hearing happened in the States overnight and the singer pleaded guilty by phone.
* Kylie is launching a military-style publicity campaign to crack the US. Her single 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' went to No.1 and her album 'Fever' went to No.3, but she's not quite a household name there yet. She's got several TV shows lined up including 'Queer Eye For A Straight Guy' which is a camp makeover show. She's also doing club nights and a stack of interviews. It's all to promote her album 'Body Language'.
* Fame Academy winner Alex Parks releases her second single from her brilliant debut album, ‘Introduction’. An epic ballad that recalls the beauty and majesty of early Coldplay, ‘Cry’ is the single that should see Alex catapulted into the stratospheric category of great singer/songwriters. Alex Parks is a unique new female voice and ‘Cry’ ranks alongside Dido’s ‘White Flag’ as a calling card for British women in rock.
* ‘Not In Love’ is the second single to be taken from Enrique’s fantastic album ‘7’, which was one of the pop masterpieces of 2003. The uptempo boogie-monster of a track has been re-recorded for the single release and feature Neptunes-favourite Kelis on backing vocals. Enrique’s star just keeps on rising and if tracks of this quality keep on coming he’ll soon be eclipsing the success of his father.
