Alanis Morissette to release 'Chaos' |
|
According to Alanis Morissette's Fans Website, Alanis is working on her
alblum "Chaos", a new album due in February. She started writing it in
June "with, for the first time, the intent of not going to any extremes
in terms of workaholism. I'd write a song, take a month off, write a
few more songs. As the fall began, I had a real sense of the 10 songs
that I wanted to be on the record," she says. Any song that required more
than 30 minutes to write was discarded. "Instead of spending months at
a time in a belabored process, I was interested in something
non-precious with an immediate visceral response." Chaos will be her first studio
album since 2002's Under Rug Swept.
Morissette plans limited touring, "but not the tyrannical cycle of
killing myself for a year and then recovering for a year. I have no
interest in that lifestyle anymore."

Kylie's 'Body language' |
|
BBC Radio 1 reports that Kylie's new album 'Body Language' is coming
out the middle of next month and she's been discussing the pitfalls of
choosing the title.
She did think she might be setting herself up there with people going
on about her body all the time. Apparently this album's a bit more down
tempo, although she wanted to stress that doesn't mean it's boring:
"'Body Language' is a line from the first single 'Slow', where I say
'read my body language'. I was immediately attracted to that as a title.
I did of course think, 'Is that going to create more of a problem than
I wish?' But I think it's indicative of pop music today, you can't
really separate your image from your music so I think it works."
The single 'Slow' is out on 3 November and 'Body Language' is out 17
November.

Lucradis feat. Kylie |
|
Ludacris is well known for his collaborations, but it's been revealed
by BBC Radio 1 that he's planning to work with Kylie Minogue. Something
else to look out for is the Fatboy Slim remix of his new single 'Stand
Up', we should get to hear in a few weeks. His new album 'Chicken and
Beer' is top of the US Billboard chart and other future collaborations
include one with Redman, Method Man and Outkast. Ludacris reckons he
brings something totally different to their tracks:
"I just try to spread myself out there with people that I'm also a fan
of, and let people know that I can come to their level, whatever
subject they're talking about, and just show my versatility as an MC."
"I try to listen to the track for something that I know no-one else is
gonna hear, when it comes to being different on a song, and try and
flip it in a whole new direction. Be me, that's what I try to do."

Elliott Smith Commits Suicide |
|
On October 21st, 34 year old Elliott Smith, apparently committed
suicide and was found at home by his live-in girlfriend at around noon. The
musician, who was often compared to Nick Drake and Alex Chilton, was
taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from a stab wound
in the chest. Officials confirmed that it was most likely
“self-inflicted.”
Although Smith was born in Nebraska (1969), he spent most of his youth
growing up in the suburbs of Dallas, TX with his mother, a singer. In
high school he moved to Portland, OR to live with his father, a
psychiatrist. He graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, later moving
back to Portland where he joined the punk band Heatmiser. In 1997 he
moved to New York, where he was asked by Gus Van Sant to contribute music
to his film, Good Will Hunting, which won Smith an Academy Award
nomination in 1998. Many Americans were introduced to the singer from his
downcast performance at the televised 70th Academy Awards.
Smith wrote his first song at age 13 when his name was still Steven
Paul Smith. He changed his name to Elliott while living in Portland
because he thought Steve was too “jockish.” He went on to record solo work
that included independently released albums, Roman Candle (1994), Elliott
Smith (1995) and Either/Or (1997). In the late ‘90s he signed a deal
with DreamWorks Records to record XO (1998) and Figure 8 (2000). At the
time of his death he was finishing another album said to be titled From
a Basement on a Hill, which may have described where he currently
lived. In recent years, like Beck and E from the Eels, Smith was a fixture
of the hip east Los Angeles neighborhood of Silver Lake where the cover
photo for his album Figure 8 was taken on Sunset Blvd.
Smith did not see his work as being intimate and confessional, yet his
fans did. Sadly, he was battling alcohol and drug addiction at the time
of his death.
DreamWorks Records released a statement saying, "We are deeply saddened
by Elliott Smith's tragic death. He was perhaps his generation's most
gifted singer/songwriter. His enormous talent could change your life
with a whisper."
